As we prepare for the SISEAP Conference of Clubs (COC) 2026, we are reminded that our mission as Soroptimists extends beyond service—it is about creating sustainable change that strengthens communities and safeguards the planet. In alignment with SISEAP’s focus on climate resilience, community empowerment, and sustainability, we are launching the Plant a Mangrove Sapling Campaign, an initiative inviting all clubs to take meaningful action in protecting our coastal environments.
Why Mangroves? Why Now?
Mangroves are one of the most effective natural solutions to climate challenges—absorbing carbon, protecting coastlines, supporting biodiversity, and improving livelihoods. In many parts of the SISEAP region, communities face rising tides, coastal erosion, and dwindling marine habitats.
By planting mangrove saplings, we are taking a stand for:
Climate Action
Reducing carbon footprint through nature-based solutions
Community Resilience
Safeguarding villages and coastlines from erosion and storms
Environmental Empowerment
Engaging women, youth, and volunteers in sustainable stewardship
Long-Term Impact
Restoring ecosystems that support food sources and livelihoods
This initiative reflects the SISEAP belief that empowered communities are resilient communities.
How to Participate
- Adopt a SaplingSponsor a mangrove for RM200 to support planting, maintenance, and monitoring. You can sponsor more than 1 sapling.
- Plant a SaplingJoin the scheduled planting session on the Second Day of the SISEAP COC 2026, 3 May 2026 @ 7am (from the lobby of the Pacific Sutera to Kota Kinabalu Wetlands)
- Planting SessioThose who attend the planting session will be provided with mosquito spray, mosquito patches, wellington boots and gloves.
Recognition for Sponsors
- To honour the generosity and commitment of individuals, clubs, and organisations supporting the Plant a Mangrove Sapling Campaign, every sponsorship will receive an official Certificate of Sponsorship.
- This certificate acknowledges your contribution to environmental restoration, climate resilience, and sustainable community development. It may be proudly displayed as a symbol of your support for the SISEAP COC 2026 sustainability initiative.
- Sponsors may also opt to leave a lasting legacy by dedicating their sponsored mangrove saplings in honour of a loved one, a club milestone, or a meaningful cause. Each dedicated sapling becomes a living tribute — a gift to future generations and a reminder of the sponsor’s commitment to protecting our planet.
